The WTA has run for 26 years and this year it was held in Jamaica, on the 28th of January. St. Lucia has held the honor of top wedding destination ten times, with the most recent award given for 2018.

The World Travel Awards is a red-carpet ceremony that recognizes tourism brands and travel professionals throughout the Caribbean and North America. The award ceremony occurred after the 37th annual Caribbean Travel Marketplace, which was hosted at the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.

Mrs. Howard, the CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority stated it is an honor to be recognized as a tourist destination, but even more as a honeymoon locale for destination weddings. The island is committed to providing excellent service and a romantic setting.

According to the statistics, St. Lucia saw a 5% increase in honeymoon arrivals over 2017. For couples about to get married it is a place that they can enjoy a wedding or just come to celebrate after the wedding. As a destination for honeymoons, St. Lucia hopes to continue the trend in 2019 and beyond. The tourism authority stated they wish to remain a premiere luxury location, with business concentration toward international tourists.
